Information for Schools
The She Can! program is a free, girl-centered initiative offered by Milton Community Resource Centre to empower girls through activities and discussions that build strength, leadership, and resilience. It runs in schools for 8–10 sessions during Fall, Winter, and Spring, with schools selecting the program that best fits their students. Due to high demand, placement is based on location and need, and schools are contacted once their turn arrives after submitting an expression of interest.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many sessions are there?
Each She Can! Program consists of 8 – 10 weeks of programming.
How many participants are included in one session?
We accept a maximum of 15 participants per program; However, smaller groups of 9 – 12 participants can help to create positive connections between the group and the facilitator.
Will we lose a session if there is a PA Day, holiday or snow day?
There are 1 – 2 weeks allocated at the end of the term to make up for missed sessions. If there are more missed days than that, we will find a way to condense the program for the participants.
How do we select the schools we work with?
Schools are selected using several criteria to ensure that She Can! programs are offered to the Halton Region equitably, with a priority focus on supporting under-served and vulnerable populations. These criteria include school location, needs of the school, dates and times of requests, and previous experience with She Can!
Can we have more than one program at a school?
Due to the demand of the She Can! Program, we are only able to offer one program at a school at a time. Schools can reapply for a new program, in a new term after the current program is completed.
What is the process for She Can! Programs in schools?
Once the school has been selected, we will contact the school to give them the registration forms. If there have been any changes in the application details, you can let us know at this time.
Can individuals register late?
We prefer having all participants present from the first session, but we understand that changes may occur. The CYC or contact at the school can contact the facilitator to discuss including additional participants.
