Participants of MCRC’s Free Youth Sewing Class are bringing their creativity and new skills to life as they design and produce original fashion pieces for the upcoming Eco Chic Fashion Show. This beginner-friendly program introduced youth to foundational sewing techniques while emphasizing sustainability and creativity.

Throughout the course, students explored the essentials of sewing, including how to operate sewing machines, select appropriate fabrics, accurately cut patterns, and use both machine and hand stitching techniques. They also gained confidence in reading sewing patterns, hemming garments, and mending with purpose all while integrating upcycled materials into their practice.

These young creators are applying what they’ve learned in a hands-on, real-world setting. From sketching their own designs to thoughtfully selecting repurposed fabrics, they are transforming concepts into wearable pieces. Their fashion show creations showcase not only technical skill but a commitment to eco-conscious design and personal expression.
