Introduction to Sewing Machines - Get familiar with different types of sewing machines and their parts to master essential stitches to sew various seams.
Fabric Selection and Cutting - Learn how to choose the right fabric for your projects and how to cut it accurately.
Reading Patterns - Understand how to read and follow sewing patterns for simple projects.
Hand Sewing Techniques - Gain confidence in hand sewing with lessons on:
Basic Hand Stitches: Learn essential hand stitches like the running stitch, backstitch, and slip stitch.
Sewing Buttons and Fasteners: Practice attaching buttons, hooks, and snaps by hand.
Hemming and Mending: Discover how to hem garments and mend small tears or holes using hand sewing techniques.
Hands-On Projects: Create your own projects with a special focus on sustainable designs!
Program details:
- 10 weeks long, Starting April 8th, 2025
- In Person on Tuesdays from 4 pm – 6 pm at 410 Bronte St. S in the ACT Art Studio
- Girls (inclusive of transgender & cisgender) & nonbinary youth in Grades 9-12
- Free of charge!
- All program materials and supplies are provided (participants have the option of bringing their own sewing supplies)
