The focus of this presentation is communication, empathy, and advocacy. We begin with a discussion on what makes a good leader, and identify strong female leaders in the world who we can look to as role models. We then move on to identify different communication types (verbal and non-verbal), and communication styles (passive, assertive, aggressive, and passive-aggressive). We encourage girls to adopt an assertive communication style, as it allows us to clearly state needs, wants, and thoughts respectfully. We discuss the importance of body language while communicating before addressing the role of empathy. We first ask why empathy is important, and how empathy can look in our personal lives and as a global citizen. We end on a discussion of advocacy: both self-advocacy and how we can advocate for others.
