The focus of this presentation is on careers, goal-setting, and courageous conversations. We begin with a discussion on how gender-roles affect our career paths by identifying "female" vs "male" careers in order to broaden the conversation to how gender-bias can affect the choices we make. We include implicit bias in this conversation before moving on to address gender stereotyping and how it affects the number of women who take up leadership roles. We identify the difference between a short term and a long-term goal and offer the acronym of SMART for goal setting: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. We then explain what a growth mindset is, and encourage them to adopt it: for example, we don't see mistakes as setbacks, but rather as learning opportunities. We end on how we can handle stress, navigate high expectations, and manage difficult feelings.
